Digital Innovation Drives Sustainable Urban Development in Dar Es Salaam

Tinne Van Echelpoel and Anke Coomans spent a productive week in Tanzania advancing initiatives on sustainable urban development. A highlight of the visit was leading a Design Thinking workshop on Green Transport, bringing together expertise from multiple institutions to address key urban mobility challenges. The workshop was held within the framework of VLIRUOS IUC @UHasselt (SP 7) and VLIRUOS ICP Connect DI4D (Thomas More University of Applied Sciences), with a focus on smart, sustainable, and inclusive cities. The session was organised in close collaboration with Godfrey Luwemba from Ardhi University (ARU), whose local insights strongly enriched the discussion.

In addition to the workshop, the team met to review the latest progress and define strategic next steps for the DI4D project.

The week highlighted the value of strong partnerships in leveraging digital innovation to create a greener, smarter, and more inclusive future.
